Skyhawk Men Soar Past Grizzlies

Tuesday, January 20, 2009, Alamosa Colo.  The Fort Lewis College Men's Skyhawks soared much too high for their rivals Adams State College Grizzlies, outscoring them 97-82, finding their 15th  win of the season and their 6th win in conference.

The Skyhawks got out to a slow start with two technical fouls when Jordan Brooks was “hanging from the rim on a dunk,” and when the coach argued the foul. Nate Ingbretson of the Grizzlies made all four from the line giving the Grizzlies an 8 point lead. Quick accurate shooting by Trent Bowman and Ryan Jameson from three point range deducted the Grizzlies' lead, and the Skyhawks took over  with 15:03 left in the first half, and never fell behind throughout the game.

“Our players were not selfish with the ball tonight. We found our players in the right spot to make good quality shots,” said Coach Hoffman.

The Skyhawks had five players that scored double figures in the game. Leading scorer was Kirk Archibeque with 25 points, Ryan Jameson with 22, Trent Bowman with 17, DeAndre Lansdowne with 12, and Ryan Yates with 10.

The Skyhawks shot very well in the second half with 65% from the field, 42% from 3 point range, and 66% from the line.

The Skyhawks also out rebounded the Grizzlies 37-21, which was another crucial element during the victory.

Skyhawks take on Western New Mexico Saturday in Durango, CO, in the Whalen Gymnasium at 8 p.m. The game will also be broadcasted on KIUP 930 a.m. with “the voice of the Skyhawks,” Dave Bray, and also viewed on the B2 network found at www.goskyhawks.com
